| 内容記述 | 多摩大学は1990年（平成元年）に開校した。その開校時から、多摩大学はベンチャー型企業家を生み出す教育を進めていかなければならない運命にあった。なぜなら、開校に寄与した中心の二人、すなわち野田一夫学長は日本における「経営学」の開祖の一人であったし、中村秀一郎学部長は "ベンチャービジネス”という概念と言葉を日本国中に広めたまさにその人であったからである。無論この二人だけではなしに、多摩大学の建学に馳せ参じた教授陣のほとんどが多かれ少なかれベンチャーやアントレプレナーという言葉に関係する研究者であり、また実際に社会でそういった仕事に携わっていた人々であったからでもある。 時代もまた、日本の産業社会を支えるのは古い形の巨大な企業ではなく、新しい哲学と新しい企業家精神を持った中小企業の担い手でなくてはならない、という思いを強めている。バブル型の経済が破綻して、今までの高度成長の論理が通用しなくなると当然新たな小さくても活力のあるベンチャー型企業家が求められるのである。 経営学部を持つ大学は、多摩大学のようにその創設者の精神の息吹のなかに、ベンチャーやアントレプレナーへの志向がなくても、彼らを生み出すための教育を時代が求めるようになってきたのである。今や大学における "ベンチャー教育”は、社会ニーズとなっている。しかし、残念なことに日本の経営学部を持つ多くの大学では、これまでにベンチャー教育の講座もカリキュラムも持っていなかったし、当然その経験も存在しなかったのである。従って、まず最初にしなければならなかったことは、大学自体がベンチャーの精神を持つことであった。大学全体として、チャレンジすることができなかったとしたら、その志しを持つ少数の先生であってもベンチャー教育に取り組む必要があるのではないか。 アメリカのサンノゼのシリコンバレーを生み出した１つの苗床は、スタンフォード大学であるといわれているが、この大学でも組織的なベンチャー教育が行われていたのではなく、1930年代電子工学の先生だったターマン教授が二人の教え子ヒューレットとパッカードを支援したことからベンチャー企業集積が始まったという話は有名である。今でもコンピュータ業界では冠たる地位を確保しているこのヒュートレット・パッカード社は車庫からスタートアップしたものであるが、私はそれをもじって〈ガレージ・インダストリィからカレッジ・インダストリィへ〉と呼んでいる。 そのカレッジ・インダストリィへの挑戦が、この論文の主題となるものである。ささやかな試みであるが、日本のベンチャー教育の一つのモデルになれば、と念じている。そしてそれが大きな流れとなって、多摩大学が存在する多摩エリアが日本におけるシリコンバレーのような地域に発展することを、私は究極の望みとしているのである。 |

| 内容記述 | Tama University was established in 1989 and due to the significant contribution of Professors Kazuo Noda and Hideichiro Nakamura Tama University was destined to promote education for entrepreneurs interested in new business ventures. Professor Noda is one of the foremost initiators of economics in Japan and Professor Nakamura Promoted the concept and phrase "venture business" throughout Japan. Indeed, the other professors at the time the university was founded, had studied the concept of entrepreneurial business and were engaged in their own business ventures. Due to the collapse of the "bubble economy" many people now regard small and growing new businesses with new concepts as a necessity in supporting Japanese industry as oppose to the large conglomerates which flourished when the economic growth rate was high. It is clear that in this day and age our society requires a type of education which will encourage entrepreneurs and new business ventures. This educational stance should be adopted by universities even if they may not be as business orientated as Tama University and its founders. Unfortunately, most universities and its departments of administration have had no training and experience in "business education". The universities themselves should create and cultivate a spirit and sense of enterprise. I think that if a university cannot offer such a comprehensive business education perhaps the professors of these establishments should individually attempt to offer this kind of education. It is said that one of the catalysts in the establishing of Silicon Valley in San Jose, U.S.A. was Stanford University; although Stanford University did not offer any systematic education on establishing new business ventures at that time. As we now know the integration of new businesses began when Professor Tarman (professor of electronics) supported his two students, Hewlett and Packard. Hewlett-Packard, now one of the leading computer companies in the world, originated from a garage; that is why I say "FROM GARAGE INDUSTRY TO COLLEGE INDUSTRY." The main subject of this thesis is an attempt to create a "college industry". It may be a modest attempt but I do hope that my thesis will inspire "venture education" and that the Tama area including Tama University will develop into a "Silicon Valley" in Japan. |
