 note = {ルイザ・メイ・オルコット作『若草物語』は今もなお世界中で多くの読者に愛されている名作である。原題を Little Women というこの小説は、日本では明治 39 年（1906 年）に北田秋圃という翻訳者の手によって、彩雲閣という出版社から『小婦人』というタイトルで初邦訳された。しかし、この「北田秋圃」が何者であったのか、どのようないきさつで Little Women を翻訳することになったのか ―― その正体は謎に包まれている。筆者は、たったひとつの情報である 1994 年の新聞記事を手掛かりに、代議士・高橋本吉夫人であったと言われる「北田秋圃」という翻訳者・高橋なをを追いかけてみることにした。これは 2022 年に発表した研究ノート「北田秋圃をさがして」の続編である。前回は、新聞投稿したなをの娘・松村たねの側から調査を試みたが、今回は出版社である彩雲閣、夫・高橋本吉、および高橋なを本人の親族など、多方向から検証してみる。, One of the great pieces of American literature from the 19th century, Little Women, authored by Louisa May Alcott, was first translated into Japanese in 1906 under the pen name Kitada Akiho. The title she chose was Sho Fujin, which means ‘little women,’ published by Saiunkaku. Kitada Akiho never published other works, and no one seems to know much about her. I began this research after reading a short newspaper article published in Yomiuri Shimbun on July 6th, 1994. Her real name was Takahashi Nao, the wife of a politician, Takahashi Motokichi. This essay is a sequel to my 2022 research note that introduced Nao’s daughter, Matsumura Tane. This time, I extend my research to the publisher Saiunkaku, her husband Takahashi Motokichi, and Nao’s relatives.},
