The primary purpose of this paper is to convince teachers of the necessity of building student-teacher rapport in order to meet the learning needs and learning preferences of students. The secondary purpose is to argue that part of our role as teachers is to create the affective conditions and positive emotions that engender the types of proacademic behaviors predictive of learning success.
